3rd and 1

MLB: Baseball is back. A lot of surprises early on, the big spenders in the off-season aren’t atop the majors. Miami, Angels, and Detroit for example are all middle of the pack teams. Weren’t these teams supposed to crush everyone else? I know it’s early but, great players don’t make a great team. Miami is in a state of turmoil, turned upside down by Ozzie Guillen’s comments about Castro. Personally, I think the guy is a good manager that does stupid things. He always has, even when he was with the White Sox. I’m surprised by Washington and the Dodgers, both teams I didn’t expect to do as well as they are doing so far this season. I originally thought the Washington National’s hitting wouldn’t be strong enough, but it’s worked, with the good pitching rotation they have they can go far this year but they have to keep Strasburg healthy. Roy Halladay still remains at the top his game, even at 34 years old with 2-0 record and 0.60 ERA. My Cubs look bad; especially the bullpen which blew 2 wins in the first 2 games of the season. Anyway, looks like it will be a great season and I can’t wait for it to unfold.

NBA: This short NBA season is nearly over. With the playoffs pretty much set except for maybe the 8th seed. The East looks like it will end up being Heat vs. Bulls again. This time I think the Bulls have the upper hand; they beat the Heat by 10 in overtime last Thursday. A win like that gives a lot of confidence to a team. On top of that it was without Derrick Rose at 100%. They’ll need him to be at his highest level if they want to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals. Out West, it looks like the Thunder are the clear favorites for me. The San Antonio Spurs are a good team, but they are an aging empire. My 'Dark Horse' in the West are the LA Clippers because they do great things with moving the ball around and finding the open man, which usually leads to great Blake Griffin dunks. With that being said, I think the West will be much closer than the East.

NFL: With the Draft coming up, all the talk is about Luck and RG3, which should go 1 and 2 in the draft. But will they pan out for the Colts and Redskins? I’m a believer that you draft for talent rather than need. But in the NFL things are different in that there are so many positions and everyone is so close in terms of skill and so strong and fast that you can’t always find that superb player when the time comes.
